Radon Testing
Radon testing for buyers and homeowners in Wisconsin Rapids, Stevens Point, Wausau, Marshfield and the surrounding counties.

Outdoors, radon dissipates harmlessly. Inside a home it can become trapped at dangerous concentrations, and long Wisconsin winters with the house closed up give it every chance to build up. E&R Inspections and Appraisals uses professional-grade radon testing equipment to provide accurate, reliable results you can trust.
Whether you are buying a home or have lived in yours for years, a radon test is the only way to confirm your level is safe. Eric Bjorkquist is an InterNACHI Certified Professional Inspector, and results are interpreted by a certified inspector, not just handed to you as a number.
Radon is a natural, radioactive gas produced when uranium in the ground decays. Wisconsin is one of the states with a higher risk of elevated levels, and Central Wisconsin homes are no exception.
Basements get the attention, but radon affects slab, crawl space and basement homes alike. Two houses on the same street can test very differently, so a neighbor’s result tells you little about yours.
According to the EPA, radon is one of the leading contributors to lung cancer, behind only smoking. It has no smell, taste or color, and a test is the only way to know your level.
How It Works
Short-term radon tests are run with windows and outside doors kept closed, apart from normal coming and going. In a Central Wisconsin winter that happens naturally; in warmer months the seller is asked to keep the house closed for the test.
The equipment goes in the lowest level of the home that is used or could be used as living space, usually the basement, away from drafts, windows and sump pits.
Short-term tests run for a minimum of 48 hours, which fits inside a typical inspection period when the test is started at the time of the home inspection.
Results are interpreted by a certified inspector and compared to the EPA action level of 4 pCi/L, so you know whether the number calls for action.
Yes. Radon testing is required by many lenders and recommended for all home purchases. Testing during the inspection period gives you time to negotiate mitigation with the seller if the level is high.
Mitigation systems are effective and relatively affordable. If elevated levels are found, we provide mitigation referrals so you can get quotes before closing.
Yes. Radon testing can be added to your home inspection, so the test runs while the rest of the inspection is completed and reported.
